Garland County, Arkansas

One Class II confirmation and two other interesting sightings in Garland County which occurred in the late 1990s. Of most significance is the incident describing a mother cougar and two kittens. The descriptions are given below in chronological order.

November, 1998

Scat found by researchers. Thin-layer chromatography tests of scats indicated "probable" cougar.

January, 1999

Arkansas Game and Fish Commission Wildlife Officer reported sighting of adult female and two kittens laying in a cut-away within a dry creek bed south of Lake Winona on the Saline/Garland county line.

November, 1999

U. S. Department of Agriculture Forest Service biologist reported seeing cougar cross Highway 298 while driving. The location is in the center of Garland County.
