Dr. CLAY NIELSEN TO GIVE CAT LECTURES
Dr. Clay Nielsen, Director of Scientific Research for the Eastern Cougar Network and Wildlife Ecologist at the Cooperative Wildlife Research Lab at Southern Illinois University Carbondale, will be giving two cat lectures in the Chicago area in November. His presentation for the St. Charles Parks District will be at 7 PM on November 10 and is titled, “Bobcats in Illinois: Tales of a Resilient Predator”. At 7 PM on November 11, Dr. Nielsen will be giving the presentation, “Cougars in Lake County?” at the Liberty Prairie Conservancy.
Dr. Nielsen’s presentations track an increase in bobcat and cougar sightings in the Chicago metropolitan area. He will provide information about the ecology of bobcats and cougars and trends in their numbers throughout North America, with special focus on the Midwest where populations may be expanding.
